New Delhi, July 1: In a significant move after several years, Indian Railways has officially increased passenger ticket fares, with the new rates coming into effect from today. As per the order issued on Monday, fares for air-conditioned (AC) classes in Mail and Express trains have been hiked by 2 paise per kilometre, while non-AC classes will see a 1 paise per kilometre rise. For regular second-class journeys up to 500 km, the fare remains unchanged; however, travel beyond this distance will now cost an additional 0.5 paise per kilometre. Similar minor hikes have been introduced for sleeper and first-class categories.

The revised fare structure will also apply to high-end trains such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Vande Bharat, Duronto, Tejas, and other special services including Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches. All regular long-distance trains—excluding suburban routes—are now covered under the updated pricing model. “Tickets booked on or after July 1 will reflect the new fares, while older bookings remain unaffected,” clarified the official release. The Passenger Reservation System (PRS), Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS), and station counters have been reconfigured to implement the revised tariffs smoothly.
