PM Modi Announces Ambitious Plan for a Homegrown Space Station

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 23, 2025, announced that India will soon build its own space station, marking a historic leap in the nation’s space ambitions. Speaking on National Space Day, he highlighted India’s rapid progress in breakthrough technologies like semi-cryogenic engines and electric propulsion while urging private sector players and startups to contribute actively towards achieving this milestone.

Modi also set a vision of launching 50 rockets annually to strengthen India’s space ecosystem. Meanwhile, ISRO confirmed that nearly 80% of the crucial Gaganyaan mission tests are complete, with the first uncrewed mission scheduled for December 2025 and full preparations expected by March 2026.

This bold announcement signals India’s transition from participation in global missions to establishing independent human spaceflight capabilities and a permanent research presence in orbit.
