The historic Puttige Mahatobhara Shri Somanatheshwara Temple, nestled in Moodbidri, Karnataka, is currently hosting the Brahmakalashabhisheka and re-consecration rituals from February 28 to March 7, 2025. This significant event follows an extensive renovation estimated at ₹15 crore, restoring the temple's 800-year-old grandeur. The temple, originally established by the Chouta dynasty, serves as a spiritual center for 18 maganes and 77 villages, including regions like Malali-Polali, Pejavara, and Talapady. The presiding deity, Lord Somanatheshwara, is enshrined alongside Goddess Mahishamardini, with additional shrines dedicated to Lakshmi Narasimha, Chandranatheshwara, and other deities.

The comprehensive restoration, guided by hereditary administrator Kuladeep M. Chouta, adhered to traditional architectural principles. Enhancements include a stone-built sanctum, copper-plated outer hall, intricately carved assembly hall, and grand eastern and western gopuras. The temple complex now spans 2.75 acres, featuring three courtyards and an expansive outer courtyard unique to Dakshina Kannada. The ongoing Brahmakalashabhisheka ceremonies have attracted devotees and volunteers from across the region, reflecting the temple's enduring cultural and spiritual significance.
