In a swift response to the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Union Home Minister Amit Shah landed in Srinagar on Tuesday evening to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The attack, which occurred at the Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, resulted in the deaths of at least 26 tourists, including two foreign nationals from Italy and Israel, and left several others injured.
Shah was received at Sheikh-ul-Alam International Airport by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, along with senior state officials and top police brass. He is scheduled to chair a high-level security meeting to review the current law and order situation and evaluate counter-terrorism measures.
The attack has sent shockwaves across the nation, drawing condemnation from various political leaders and civil society. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently visiting Saudi Arabia, has been briefed on the situation and emphasized India's resolve to combat terrorism.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar expressed deep sorrow over the attack, extending condolences to the victims and their families, and affirmed that Israel stands in solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism.
