Shivamogga, Karnataka: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated India’s second-longest cable-stayed bridge, the 6-kilometer-long Sharavathi Bridge, in Shivamogga, Karnataka, on Monday. The event, attended by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, MP BY Raghavendra and other dignitaries, marks a significant milestone in regional infrastructure development.
Constructed at a cost of ₹472 crore, the bridge is poised to revolutionize connectivity for numerous villages in the Sagar and Hosanagara taluks, while enhancing access to prominent pilgrimage sites like the Sigandur Chowdeshwari and Kollur Mookambika temples.
Addressing a decades-old challenge, the bridge promises to stimulate economic activity and improve mobility, with its 16-meter-wide deck featuring an 11-meter carriageway and 1.5-meter footpaths on either side. The inauguration, held amidst a ceremonial backdrop, underscores the government’s commitment to the ‘Pragati Ka Highway’ and ‘Gati Shakti’ initiatives, heralding a new era of progress for the region.
