Prayagraj, February 26: The grand Maha Kumbh 2025, which began on January 13, culminated today with the final holy dip on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri. Millions of devotees gathered at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati in Prayagraj to take the last ‘snan’ (ritual bath), marking the end of the world’s largest religious congregation. Maha Shivratri, which celebrates the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, holds immense spiritual significance, especially in the Kumbh context. The event also symbolizes Lord Shiva’s crucial role in the Samudra Manthan, which led to the emergence of the Amrit Kumbh, the essence of the Kumbh Mela tradition.

Over the past 44 days, the Maha Kumbh witnessed six special ‘snan’ days, including three ‘Amrit Snan’ on Paush Purnima (January 13), Makar Sankranti (January 14), and Mauni Amavasya (January 29). The subsequent bathing rituals on Basant Panchami (February 3) and Maghi Purnima (February 12) led up to the grand finale on Maha Shivratri.
