After a five-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions, the revered Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is poised to recommence in June 2025. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that the pilgrimage will run from June to August, with applications now open on the official portal, kmy.gov.in. This revival follows a bilateral agreement between India and China aimed at improving diplomatic relations, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

To enhance accessibility, the 2025 Yatra will introduce a trek-free route, allowing pilgrims to travel by vehicle up to the Lipulekh Pass, significantly reducing the physical demands of the journey. Additionally, plans are underway to resume direct flights between India and China, facilitating smoother travel for devotees. These developments not only mark a significant step in spiritual tourism but also signify a renewed commitment to fostering people-to-people connections between the two nations.
