India marked its 79th Independence Day with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading celebrations at the Red Fort, where he paid tribute at Rajghat before hoisting the Tricolour. Delivering his longest Independence Day address, lasting over 103 minutes, Modi hailed the armed forces for the success of Operation Sindoor, calling it a symbol of the nation’s growing self-reliance. He urged citizens and influencers to contribute to India’s growth, reiterated the mantra of “Vocal for Local,” and highlighted the goal of building a developed India by 2047.


The Prime Minister announced the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgaar Yojana to support first-time private-sector jobholders with a ₹15,000 incentive, unveiled Mission Sudarshan Chakra—an advanced indigenous air-defence system—and promised next-generation GST reforms by Diwali to ease the tax burden.
