The Union Budget 2025 has sparked a major political storm in Karnataka, with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar slamming the BJP-led central government for its alleged bias against the state. Accusing the Modi government of prioritizing electoral gains over regional development, Shivakumar stated that the budget completely ignores the needs and aspirations of millions of Kannadigas. He criticized the lack of significant allocations for Karnataka’s infrastructure, irrigation, and industrial growth, calling it a “betrayal” of the state's contributions to the nation’s economy.

“This budget is not just a financial setback for Karnataka but an attack on the very essence of democracy,” Shivakumar said, emphasizing that a government should work for the prosperity of all states, not just those where elections are imminent. He accused the BJP of deliberately sidelining Karnataka, despite its high tax contributions to the Centre, and warned that such neglect would not be forgotten by the people. The remarks have added fuel to an already heated political debate, with opposition leaders rallying behind the claim that Karnataka has been shortchanged once again.
