Udupi: A simple call centre in the quiet coastal town of Udupi has been unmasked as the Indian nerve centre of a sprawling international drug trafficking syndicate. Run by a man from Tamilnadu, the centre coordinated orders from across the globe and shipped narcotics through Delhi to clients in over 10 countries, spanning North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in a sweeping multi-city crackdown involving Delhi, Jaipur, Roorkee, and Udupi, arrested eight individuals and seized a substantial cache of narcotics. Authorities say this is one of the largest recent busts of a tech-enabled drug network in India.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah lauded the operation, commending the NCB and allied agencies for their swift and decisive action. “Under PM Modi’s leadership, we are committed to breaking every drug network threatening our youth,” he stated.

The Udupi superintendent of police confirmed that the accused had used online advertisements and phone contacts to solicit global orders before dispatching the drugs via Delhi. The operator of the call centre was arrested last month, and leads have prompted law enforcement action even in the US and Australia. Investigations into the Delhi-based kingpin and the broader international nexus are currently underway.
