Mangaluru North MLA Bharath Shetty inaugurated the newly repaired Suratkal-MRPL railway over bridge on Monday, a project undertaken by the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) at a cost of ₹78 lakhs. Addressing the gathering, the MLA highlighted that while the bridge remains under railway jurisdiction, the road was concretized in public interest after securing a No Objection Certificate (NoC). He also emphasized the need to expand the railway over bridge road into a four-lane stretch, stating that a proposal has been submitted to MP Brijesh Chowta and Railway Minister Somanna for approval.

However, the inauguration event was marred by political controversy, with allegations surfacing that opposition leaders in the MCC, along with local ward corporators, were not invited to the ceremony. This has sparked criticism from the opposition, who claim that such public infrastructure projects should be free from political bias. Despite the controversy, the repaired bridge is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the region. Mayor Manoj Kumar, Deputy Mayor Bhanumathi, and local corporator Saritha Shasidhar were among those present at the event.
