Mangalore: Highlighting the need for a well-equipped 100-bed Ayurvedic hospital in Mangalore, MLA Dr. Bharath Shetty emphasized the importance of a government-run facility to cater to the growing demand for Ayurvedic treatment. Speaking at the quarterly KDP meeting held at the Mangalore Taluk Panchayat office on Thursday, he noted that while private Ayurvedic hospitals are functioning effectively, they are unable to meet the increasing demand. Many patients face delays in consulting doctors due to high demand, he added. Dr. Bharath Shetty urged the AYUSH department to submit a proposal for a government Ayurvedic hospital, which could pave the way for establishing a government Ayurvedic medical college in the region.
Addressing other issues, MLA Dr. Bharath Shetty stressed the need for more hostels in Mangalore to accommodate students from rural areas of Dakshina Kannada district and other parts of Karnataka. Mangalore, being an educational hub, attracts a large number of students, and the existing hostel facilities are insufficient. The MLA directed officials from the Social Welfare and Backward Classes Welfare Departments to draft a five-year plan to address the growing demand for hostel accommodations. He also pointed out that many MLAs from other districts are requesting hostel seats in Mangalore for their students. While two BCM hostels are already under construction, Dr. Bharath Shetty stated that these will not be adequate to meet the needs. He emphasized the importance of providing affordable education opportunities for economically disadvantaged students and urged authorities to prioritize hostel infrastructure development.
Administrative Officer Ravi Kumar, Executive Officer Mahesh Kumar Holle, and various departmental officials were present at the meeting.
