The Congress party in Karnataka is facing fresh internal discord as Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s recent spiritual engagements have triggered a controversy within the party ranks. His participation in the Maha Kumbh Mela and a visit to Sadhguru’s Isha Foundation for Mahashivratri celebrations—where Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also present—have raised concerns among a section of Congress leaders. Some see his actions as aligning with right-wing ideologies, creating unease in the party. Shivakumar, known for his strong political presence in the state, has hit back at his critics, asserting that his spiritual beliefs should not be politicized.

The issue escalated further when AICC Secretary PV Mohan openly criticized Shivakumar’s Coimbatore visit, suggesting it misled party workers. In a post on X, Mohan took a veiled dig, questioning the Karnataka Congress leader for engaging with individuals perceived to be aligned with the RSS and for appearing to undermine Rahul Gandhi. The remarks hint at growing friction within the Congress, especially in Karnataka, where Shivakumar holds significant sway. With Karnataka being a crucial state for the party, this internal rift could pose serious challenges, raising concerns over unity ahead of the upcoming elections.
