Mangaluru: District In-Charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has called for strict social boycott of those indulging in disruptive activities and religious goondaism, emphasizing the importance of maintaining communal harmony. Speaking at the Republic Day celebrations on Sunday, he stated, “No matter the group or community, strict action will be taken against those engaging in unlawful moral policing.” He urged citizens to report illegal activities to the police, warning that goondaism tarnishes the district's reputation and hampers tourism, investments, and religious activities. Highlighting India's unity in diversity, he stressed the need to respect all religions and vowed to preserve peace and foster collective growth.

The minister also shared plans for the district's development, emphasizing the focus on sectors like agriculture, horticulture, and fishing. He announced the approval of 11 floating jetties at the old port and construction of a jetty for traditional boats at Ullal Kodi. Under the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Development Scheme, ₹165 crore has been allocated to Mangaluru City Corporation for 25 developmental projects. Gundu Rao also highlighted the digitization of taluk panchayat records and progress in pending applications for public services. The event featured cultural performances by students from local schools and colleges, with notable attendees including Mayor Manoj Kumar, MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta, and MLC Ivan D’Souza.
