The ambitious Plastic Park project in Ganjimutt, Dakshina Kannada, has hit yet another roadblock due to a land acquisition dispute over 9.33 acres of the proposed 104-acre site. Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta urged the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) to prepare a revised plan that excludes the disputed land and take immediate measures to implement the project. Expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of progress, the MP emphasized the need for swift action to bring the delayed initiative back on track. The Plastic Park project, originally approved during the tenure of late Union Minister Ananth Kumar, received implementation clearance in 2022 but has since been stalled.
MP Capt. Brijesh highlighted the project’s potential to transform the region’s industrial landscape and boost employment opportunities. He stressed the importance of overcoming the hurdles posed by the legal dispute to avoid further delays in realizing the vision. The MP's suggestion to relinquish the disputed land and proceed with the remaining area is seen as a pragmatic solution to revive the initiative. KIADB has been urged to expedite the revised plan and ensure the project’s timely execution, which could significantly contribute to the local economy and position Mangalore as a hub for the plastic industry.
