New Delhi/Mangaluru: In a major initiative to boost rail infrastructure in Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi and formally urged the introduction of a Vande Bharat Sleeper Express between Mangaluru and Bengaluru. In his letter, Captain Chowta praised the evolution of Indian Railways under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, citing the Vande Bharat Express as a symbol of India’s engineering prowess and passenger-centric innovation.
He stressed the strategic importance of the Mangaluru–Bengaluru corridor, pointing to consistently high demand from students, tourists, professionals, and traders, and flagged the shortage of efficient overnight train options. With the Vande Bharat Sleeper variant expected to debut in September 2025, Chowta pushed for prioritizing this corridor to ease congestion and enhance travel comfort. The proposal has garnered support across the region, with stakeholders optimistic about its potential to transform connectivity in coastal Karnataka.
