The iconic Matsyagandha Express, a crucial rail link connecting coastal Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra, has been upgraded with state-of-the-art Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches, significantly enhancing passenger safety and comfort. The newly fitted LHB coaches were officially inaugurated on February 17, 2025, at Indrali Railway Station by Member of Parliament Kota Srinivas Poojary. Running daily between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (Kurla, Mumbai) and Mangaluru Central, the 12619/12620 Matsyagandha Superfast Express has long been considered the lifeline of Mangaluru. The train, which began service on May 1, 1998, traverses the picturesque but challenging Konkan Railway route, making the upgrade to LHB coaches a crucial development for passenger experience and security.

The transition from conventional ICF coaches to modern LHB rakes marks a significant milestone in the history of Matsyagandha Express. Known for their superior ride quality, enhanced safety features, and increased capacity, LHB coaches are designed to minimize derailment risks and offer a more comfortable travel experience. The upgraded rake commenced its journey from Mangaluru Central on February 17, 2025, and from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mumbai, on February 18, 2025. With this transformation, the Matsyagandha Express is set to offer a smoother, safer, and more enjoyable journey to thousands of passengers who rely on this vital train service daily.
