Kasargod Horror: Man Burns Mother Alive, Injures Relatives, Flees to Mangaluru

Kasargod: In a horrifying crime that has shaken the quiet village of Varkady, 26-year-old Melwyn Monteiro allegedly set his mother, Hilda Monteiro (59), ablaze after dousing her with kerosene early Thursday morning. The gruesome act reportedly took place in the backyard of their residence, after which he dumped her charred body nearly 100 meters away amid nearby bushes. Shockingly, when neighbors and relatives Victor and his wife Lolita (30) came looking for Hilda, Melwyn allegedly attempted to burn them as well, leaving both with severe injuries.

He then fled the scene in an autorickshaw to Hosangady and boarded a bus towards Mangaluru. Police say Melwyn, a labourer by profession, remains at large, and the motive behind the brutal act is still under investigation. The victim's other son, Alwyn, had recently moved to Kuwait for employment, leaving the family devastated by the tragic turn of events.
