Bengaluru: In a major move to make cinema more affordable, the Karnataka government has officially capped movie ticket prices at ₹200 across all theatres, including multiplexes.

This rule, applicable to films of all languages, includes entertainment tax and was notified on Tuesday by B K Bhuvanendra Kumar, Under Secretary, Home Department (Prisons and Cinemas). The amendment adds a new proviso to Rule 55 (6) of the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) (Amendment) Act, 2014, ensuring that no theatre can charge more than ₹200 per ticket.
The government has also invited public objections or suggestions within 15 days. This decision fulfils Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s budget promise for 2025–26 to regulate cinema ticket pricing in the state.
