After years of persistent demands, Dakshina Kannada district has finally been granted a DCIRE (District Crime Intelligence and Records Establishment) unit. Puttur MLA Ashok Rai has requested ADGP Arun Chakravarthy to establish the sanctioned unit in Puttur, citing its rapid growth and significance as the second-largest city in the district after Mangaluru. Highlighting the city's strategic importance, MLA emphasized that Puttur's development makes it an ideal location to address regional law enforcement challenges effectively.
Currently, Dalit atrocity cases in rural areas require victims to travel long distances to Mangaluru to file complaints, a process that adds to their hardships. Establishing the DCIRE unit in Puttur would ensure quicker and more accessible grievance redressal for such cases. Additionally, Puttur already houses the Dakshina Kannada Women’s Police Station, streamlining the handling of women-related cases within the district. With the DCIRE unit in Puttur, similar efficiency can be achieved for cases of Dalit atrocities, benefiting the public while reinforcing law enforcement infrastructure.
