Mangaluru: In light of incessant heavy rainfall over the past few days, a red alert has been issued in Udupi district, prompting the district administration to declare a holiday for Anganwadis, primary, and high schools (including CBSE) on Thursday, June 12. The holiday applies to government, aided, and private institutions, while pre-university, degree, post-graduate, engineering, diploma, and ITI colleges will remain open. The District Disaster Management Authority has taken proactive steps to manage the situation and minimize risks due to the prevailing weather conditions.

Parents have been urged to keep children away from low-lying areas, water bodies, and the coastline. Fishermen have also been warned against venturing into the sea. Taluk-level officers have been instructed to stay at headquarters, and nodal officers are on high alert to respond swiftly to emergencies. Tourists and locals are strictly barred from visiting beaches, rivers, and waterfalls or engaging in risky photography in such zones. For assistance, the 24x7 emergency helpline (1077) and additional contact numbers of local offices have been released by the administration.
